Got in late last night to DC, staying about a Metro stop away from the Shoreham where the conference is being held. I don’t have Internet access there, only here at my hotel, so I will have to sum up like this tomorrow as well. Some initial thoughts:
- The hotel wher ethe conference is being held is very nice but VERY confusing to navigate. I had to just wander around for a few minutes to get the hang of it.
- There are a tons of Ron Paul/libertarian types here. CPAC and the conservative movement in general is pretty diverse, and I think that’s a good thing. Still, I was inundated with fliers about liberty and Ron Paul and blah blah blah (mentioned here).
- Twitter encounters — that is, when you run into people you only know from Twitter — can be awesome and awkward and everything in between. It was good to meet a few people that I’ve only known previously through Twitter.
- The smaller panels and discussion are always a little more interesting than the big popular ones, although Newt was great today.
- Blogger’s row was smaller and further off to the side than I thought it would be. I enjoyed seeing Mary Katharine Ham again and meeting Ed Morrissey from Hot Air.
Also, I met Joe the Plumber. Patrick Ruffini’s post (which I generally agree with) notwithstanding, it was awesome. Feast your eyes, feast-your-eyers:
